Broward Health has broken ground on a new medical office building at Broward Health North, 201 East Sample Road in Deerfield Beach, which will expand access to high-quality specialty care and outpatient services in northern Broward County. The event welcomed more than 100 dignitaries, including many elected officials from three municipalities (Deerfield Beach, Lighthouse Point and Pompano Beach), as well as numerous business and community leaders from across the region to celebrate Broward Health’s newest development.
“Yesterday’s groundbreaking marks an important milestone for Broward Health,” said Shane Strum, President and CEO of Broward Health. “This facility reinforces our commitment to meeting the long-term healthcare needs of our community and to serving Broward County residents for generations to come.”
The six-story, 127,033-square-foot facility, scheduled to open in 2027, is one of the health system’s first major new construction projects in almost 30 years and reinforces Broward Health’s long-term commitment to supporting high-quality care, innovation and improved patient outcomes.
Designed by The Beck Group in collaboration with DMZ Architects, the building will include 75 exam rooms, with infrastructure to expand to 123 as future demand grows. Patients will have access to cardiovascular, neuroscience and orthopedic services, as well as additional specialty clinics and affiliated physician practices. Co-locating outpatient specialty care with inpatient services will strengthen clinical integration and make it convenient for patients.
“This medical office building represents a significant investment in the future of care at Broward Health North,” said Matt Garner, the hospital’s CEO. “Expanding specialty services on campus makes it easier for patients to access the care they need close to home while providing our physicians and care teams with a modern, efficient environment.”
Architectural elements inspired by the signature lighthouse in Deerfield Beach reflect the area’s coastal character while symbolizing hope and guidance. The design integrates with the surrounding Broward Health North campus to promote accessibility, connection and community.
Standardized clinic floor plans will provide consistency across the Broward Health system, while flexible layouts will support evolving care models and emerging technologies. These features are designed to enhance efficiency and improve patient experience.
“Establishing a modern medical office building on the Broward Health North campus allows us to streamline operations and better support how our teams work every day,” said David Clark, senior vice president of operations for Broward Health. “The result is a more coordinated experience for patients and providers.”
Remedy Medical Properties, a national outpatient medical real estate owner, is collaborating on the project, and DPR Construction is the general contractor.
The Broward Health North medical office building is one of two major medical office building projects planned by the health system. A second facility and parking garage are planned at Broward Health Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale. Together, these initiatives support Broward Health’s broader strategy to expand specialty services, attract top medical talent and bring care closer to home throughout Broward County.
