Former Interim CEO Aurelio Fernandez Transitions to Corporate Role
FORT LAUDERDALE, FLORIDA – Manuel “Manny” Linares has been named the new chief executive officer (CEO) of Broward Health Medical Center.
Aurelio M. Fernandez III, FACHE, who served as interim CEO of Broward Health Medical Center while the health system conducted a national search for the position, is transitioning to a new role at Broward Health’s corporate offices, where he will manage special projects with members of the health system’s executive team.
“We’re excited to welcome Manny as Aurelio transitions to his new role,” said Shane Strum, President & CEO of Broward Health. “Manny brings more than 30 years of healthcare experience, mostly served in South Florida. He has the industry experience and local perspective needed to lead our flagship hospital as we pursue Broward Health’s new vision to be the champion for a healthier community.
Aurelio did an outstanding job as interim CEO at Broward Health Medical Center, which made incredible advancements under his leadership. We are excited for his continued contribution to the system in our corporate offices, added Strum.
Linares most recently served as president and CEO of Touro Infirmary, a 360-bed hospital that’s part of LCMC Health, a public, non-profit healthcare system located in New Orleans, La. Prior to that, he spent 30 years at Tenet Healthcare Corporation in various leadership roles, including CEO and chief operating officer (COO) of North Shore Medical Center, as well as COO of North Ridge Medical Center.
Linares earned his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and a Master of Health Services Administration from Florida International University.
Before joining Broward Health, Fernandez had most recently retired from Memorial Healthcare System after serving as President and CEO. Born in Havana, Cuba, he has been a resident of South Florida for the past 61 years and a healthcare professional in the tri-county region for over 45 years.
