The Florida Institute of CPAs held its annual Health Care Industry Conference May 2 – May 3 at the Rosen Plaza Hotel in Orlando, FL. Close to 200 attendees, evenly divided between online and in-person participation, gained valuable industry knowledge and earned continuing education credits at the two day event billed as the “the only FICPA conference that highlights accounting and finance health care issues.” The Conference Planning Committee, led by Eric S. Friedfeld, Chair, delivered a two-day program filled with provocative topics taught by a diverse and experienced faculty.
The opening keynote was delivered by John Couris, President and CEO, Tampa General Hospital. Mr. Couris discussed Transformational Leadership: Leading Through Vulnerability, Authenticity, Transparency and Kindness. Other topics addressed on day one included Fair Market Value Considerations in Healthcare taught by Thomas J. Reck, CPA/ABV/CFF, Partner, Market Leader, Forensic and Valuation Services, Withum, Recruiting: Changing Times, Changing Strategies led by Richard Klass, President, 2CY, Inc., PIP Collections and Current Legislation presented by Marius “Marty” Ged, Managing Partner, GED Lawyers, LLP and Cybersecurity Tsunami is Coming, Are You Ready? presented by Sanjay Deo, CISSP, HCISPP, CMMC-RP, PCI-QSA, President, 24by7Security, Inc.
The day two morning keynote was delivered by Herman Williams, MD, MBA, MPH, Managing Director and Chief Physician Executive, The BDO Center for Healthcare Excellence & Innovation and entitled Healthcare Leaders Facing a Healthcare Crisis: When You Become the Patient. Other topics on this day included Regaining Momentum in the Business Office with AP Automation, led by Eric Waldenmaier, Vice President, Business Development, Paymerang, Emergency Non-Par Billed Charges and the No Surprise Act, taught by Frank Lacourt, JD, LLM, Associate Attorney and Kevin Wolkenfeld, Associate, Zumpano Patricios, P.A. The program ended with The State of Healthcare in Florida presented by Mary Mayhew, President and CEO, Florida Healthcare Association.
